I'm ignorant to the social welfare programs outside the US, but listening to others I have to assume in Europe it is more generous. I've not had deep personal conversation with active witnesses for nearly 20 years. Last year I made contact with a family and some Elders came to my house. But I avoided personal conversation and stuck to explanations on all the changes in WT doctrine.
As a child I can recall only one family that had money, but they moved to my congregation towards the end of my childhood. A lot of families were on welfare, especially those that consisted of pioneers. My mother worked full-time, and my father was a high school teacher and held jobs on weeknights teaching at the prison, and weekends doing financial auditing. He was very grumpy and a mean SOB at times (nothing physical just so tired and wanted to sleep).
One day this Elder came to our house and started to condemn my father for buying a "new" car. It was actually a used car, my family never had a "new" car. He told my father he was pursuing material things and should come back to the kingdom hall. My father was never baptized and study with the witnesses for about five years. He stopped when I was about 12 because of the hypocrisy he saw within the congregation and the favoritism that was given to JW elder's children.
This same Elder that criticized my father, never worked a single day throughout my time in the organization. He was the anointed I mentioned in another thread. His wife worked full-time, and he "pioneered". His extended family were on food stamps, medicaid, ect.. This allowed his daughter to be a pioneer. These pioneers and elders will condemn others for pursuing material things over spiritual matters, but they don't know what its like to support a family just on your income alone.
The WT has one of the best business plans I've seen. Free labor, tax free income, and its workers are subsidized by tax payers.
oh and their charity work "we teach literacy" what a scam
